  For all sea food lovers here is a spicy tangy recipe for mackerel fish which is known as Meen Pulimunchi..It’s a bunt style preparation where in their language puli means Tamrind /tangyness and munchi means chilly /spiciness…..
In an around mangalore this dish is famous in all restaurants and houses….this is also prepared with Chicken known koli pulimunchi or chicken Pulimunchi (See Recipe here…
Overall a lovely dish just enjoy this a simple dal and rice.


•3-4 big mackerel fish(1/2 kg)
•20/25 badige chillies roasted (long verity)
•2tsp coriander /dhania seeds
•4 seeds of methi/fenugreek seeds
•1/2-1/4 tsp mustard
•5 garlic cloves
•1/4 cup coconut(optional )
•Goseberry size tamarind(use tamrind more if coconut is not used)

For seasoning

•Curry leaves 1spring
•2 slit greenchilles
•1 ” ginger chopped
•Coriander leaves for garnishing
•1tblsp coconut oil


▪Grind all above to a fine paste fine as possible with little water..
▪Heat pan add coconut oil , curryleaves, green chillies, ginger fry awhile then add masala boil on low flame, when oil starts oozing out add little water salt and fish cook till fish gets cooked .
▪ garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy this yummy spicy pulimunchi

* marinate fish in 1/2 tsp lime juice and salt for better result.
*Other fish like Anjal/surmai, butai/sardine can be used…
*this is one version of preparing pulimunchi.

      Sir in this recipe u need to add coconut…but there are other recipe where I don’t add coconut….for that marinate fish in limejuice nd salt….then grind soaked red chillies jeera nd salt to fine paste….heat pan add oil garlic curryleaves add masala paste cook add fish vinegar cook…garnish coriander leaves
